Lucille H. (Haynes) Wagener

Lucille H. Wagener, age 100, passed away at her home  August 2, 2017, a baptized child of God.

Raised in Port Washington, Long Island, NY Lucille attended the College of William and Mary, graduating in 1939. In their final semester, Lucille met classmate Anthony Wagener, beginning a long distance romance while Tony attended graduate school at Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh and she worked at the New Yorker magazine. Married April 11, 1942, they lived in Chicago after Tony accepted a position with The Sherwin Williams Co. With two sons and a third on the way, they moved to Park Forest in 1949 as one of the original families. In 1952 Lu and Tony purchased their lifelong home in Park Forest on Blackhawk Drive where two more sons were born. Active members of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lucille sang in the choir for fifty five years. Her love of music led to teaching elementary school music, directing the Chansonettes, and twenty years teaching piano. A true water rat, she was still an avid swimmer at age 98; a tradition of vacations at northern Wisconsin cottages saw saw many family members trying to keep up. Lucille was also a long standing member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority, and Park Forest Garden Club.

Lucille is survived by sons John (Vivian), Laurence (Norma, dec), Phillip (Pamela), Thomas (Gloria) and Paul (Sandy), seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Tony, infant daughter Andrea, daughter-in-law Norma and two sisters.

Family and friends will gather for a Visitation on  Wednesday, August 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2901 Western Ave, Park Forest, IL. from 9:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m. with Funeral Service at 12 p.m.  Interment Skyline Memorial Park Cemetery . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
