Barbara L. Smith, nee Plys, 84, Nov. 17, 2009, longtime resident of Chicago Heights; beloved wife of the late Carl Smith; devoted mother of David Smith, of Bollingbrook, Michael (Roberta) Smith of Naperville, Lynne Smith of DeKalb, and the late Penny Saulters; loving grandmother of Paul Carroll, Summer Bellessa, David Jr., Lisa, Jimmy, Sean, Angela, and Nichole Smith; fond great grandmother of Carter. Veteran of World War II, having served as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps. Barbara held a Master of Arts degree in Communications which she proudly earned in the fourth quarter of her life from Governors State University, was a world traveler and very faithful to St. James Hospital, having worked there for 25 years as a Purchasing Agent, and volunteering there following her retirement. Member of St. Paul Community Church, Homewood. Resting at the new Hirsch West End Chapel, 3501 W. Lincoln Hwy.
