Edward C. Epstein, friend and mentor of many, 85, Nov. 2, 2007, long time Park Forest resident of 54 years; beloved husband of the recently departed Marcella T., nee-Hughes; devoted father of Carol (Alan) Chute of Cincinnati, Chuck (Sue) Epstein of Folsom, CA and Joann (Dale) Lindholm of Park Forest; cherished grandfather of seven and great grandfather of two; dear brother in law of Grace (Tom) Kelleher and Walter (the late Marie) Swartz, of Philadelphia, PA. Born April 18, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA, Mr. Epstein was employed by the FMC Corporation for 46 years where he subsequently served another 15 years as a consultant. Earning a degree in Engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Mr. Epstein served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during both World War II, 1948-46, and the Korean War, 1950-52. Mr. Epstein also served as: Member of Crete-Monee School Board from 1958-76 and was its president for 10 years, President of Illinois Association of School Boards, Founding member of Illinois Association of School Boards 'Old Goats Society', Chairman of National School Boards Association-Central Region, Board member of North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Member of Governor's Commission on Educational Governance, Member of Association of National Advertisers, and Vice-President of Communications for Media Management Association. Cremation rites have been held through Lain-Sullivan Funeral Home & Crematory, where a memorial service is being planned for April, 2008. Inurnment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
