Mildred Easter Freeman Johnson was born in Garysburg, North Carolina March 28, 1921 to the union of Bruce Henry Freeman and Mary Alice Vassor, the fifth of nine children; five sisters and four brothers. Mildred attended Northampton County Training School from kindergarten until graduation as Valedictorian of her class. She was a graduate of the A.P. Scott Secretarial College and The Hawkins Business Institute, both of Washington, D.C. Mildred entered the Federal Government Service in July 1942 and after thirty-four and one half years service, retired in November 1976 from the Treasury Department, Bureau of customs; receiving the Albert Gallatin Award for honorable and dependable service. Mildred accepted Christ as her personal Savior at age 15 and was baptized by full submersion into the Rhonoake Salem Baptist Church of Garysburg. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years wherever she resided and since 1970 has been a faithful member of the Faith United Protestant Church of Park Forest, Illinois where she served as a volunteer helping the mentally impaired. Mildred was married to John W. Johnson of Beloit, Wisconsin in February 1959. They had one daughter, Dina Caren Berry of Park Forest, Illinois. Mildred was preceded in death by her four brothers and two sisters. She leaves to mourn her passing one daughter Dina C. Berry of Park Forest, IL, two grandsons Edward G. Berry of Chicago IL and Erick J. Hill of Park Forest and one great-grand daughter Amrianna Berry of Chicago, IL, and several cousins of Garysburg, NC.
