Obituary

Anna Lee was one of two children born to Bernadette Eulalee Boucree . She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. Her beloved brother, George (Virginia) Howard predeceased her in 1983. 'Nannie' as she was known to her grandchildren, graduated from Hyde Park High School in Chicago, in 1936. Anna was married to Guy E. Allen, Jr. in March of 1937 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, in Chicago. Four children were born to this union: Stephen Victor (Janette) Allen, Mary Gladys (Ralph) Anderson, Patricia Bernadette (Melvin) Coleman, and Mark Edward (Phyllis) Allen. Anna became a working mother at a young age, helping her mother make lampshades. In 1949 she became a clerk at the Chicago Public Library. Anna was the first black women to be promoted to Head Clerk in the history of the library. She retired from the library in 1973. She will be sorely missed by all especially her four children, three nephews Jeffery(Cheryl) and Craig (Frieda) Howard and Robert (Cheryl) Allen, two nieces Renee and Gladys Allen, ten grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
