Mrs. Barnie Dell (Thompson) Williams was born on August 12, 1921 to John Thompson and Laura Taylor Thompson in Mt. Meigs, Alabama. She attended Peoples Village School under Miss Georgia Washington. Mrs. Williams confessed Christ at an early age and joined Antioch Baptist Church in Mt. Meigs, where she served faithfully until moving to Chicago, Illinois. In Chicago, Mrs. Williams became a member of Park Manor United Church of Christ and remained a member until her death. Mrs. Williams received her early education at Peoples Village School and Montgomery County Training School in Mt. Meigs, Alabama. She attended Alabama State University where she majored in elementary education. After moving to Chicago, Mrs. Williams was employed for many years as an instructor of clerical skills at Montgomery Ward. She was later employed for two decades as a caseworker for the Illinois Department of Human Services. Barnie was united in marriage to Mr. Robert Carter. This union produced a daughter, Marie Roberta Carter. They were divorced and later Barnie married Mr. James Williams. Mrs. Williams was an active volunteer in Park Manor United Church of Christs senior citizen nutrition program. She worked as a volunteer at Hyde Park Hospital answering telephones and handling mail. She served on the Called to Care Committee of the Faith United Church of Christ located in Park Forest, Illinois. Mrs. Williams peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, December 9, 2009. She leaves to cherish her memory: a sister, Mrs. Eliza Thomas; a daughter, Mrs. Marie McCadd; devoted grandsons Thomas and John; a niece, Mrs. Jacqueline Stewart and a host of extended family and friends. We are extremely thankful for the goodness, laughter, kindness, joy and generosity she brought to us. We love and treasure her deeply. She will always be a part of our lives.
