Brenda Doris Cotton, age 74, was called to rest in peace by our Lord and Savior on July 15, 2024. Brenda was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 19, 1949, to parents Cleveland and Alberta Galloway. Brenda graduated from Calumet High School in Chicago, married and lived in Detroit many years before permanently settling in Chicago. Brenda began employment with the US postal service and later retired from the CTA as a train conductor. Brenda is a sister to Vernita, Cornelius, Verlon, Doyle, Cleveland, Willie C and Foster. Mother to Francis, Tianna, and Nathaniel. Grandmother to Candance, Brandon, Zyan, Da'Vyon, Damias, Trey, and Janae. Brenda has a host of nephews and nieces whom she dearly admired. Whether Brenda was called upon as mom, sister, grandma, cuz, auntie, friend, or wife she thrived and shared a passion for life, enjoying all the workings of it regardless if it be big or small. Brenda was a friend, source of joy and delivered love, a humble unbiased type of love, for anyone who had the opportunity to share space with her. Brenda was a listener to anyone in need and took pride in spending time with family and friends, loved dancing, music, writing, checkers, fishing, bingo, movies, and playing cards. Most who knew her agreed that Brenda was the life of the party. Brenda had a full life composed of the good, bad and indifferences, carrying a humility about herself making her even easier to love. Brenda stood tall, she was not awkward, shameful, or shaming… She was unapologetically herself and should be a reminder to love and accept ourselves while we grieve of her departure. Although Brenda remains only in spirit and memory, she would not want those who miss her to live life any less, and instead to come together individually and as a community feeling assured that her love will forever remain inside our hearts and souls, she is now 'resting peacefully'. We take comfort in knowing that Brenda is smiling down on us from heaven and in spirit. Amen
