Obituary

Carl E. Johnson, 66, died in Houston, Texas, at the end of June. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, July 1, 1941, and moved to Richton Park, Illinois, in 1946. Carl was a 1959 graduate of RichTownshipHigh School, attended ThorntonCommunity Collegeand received a Bachelor of Science from Northern Illinois University Dekalb (Inorganic Chemistry) in 1964. He worked for Sinclair Research Laboratories in the early 1960s and later moved to ARCO Chemical in Pennsylvania. Carl attended night school and received a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering, Magna Cum Laude in 1978 at DrexelUniversity. Carl was accepted as a member of Whos who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges while at Drexel. In 1997, he transferred to Lyondell Chemical in Houston, Texaswhen ARCO Chemical was purchased. Carl retired after 35 years of service in 2000 but continued to work as an independent consultant, traveling to such locations as Bosniaand Poland.Survivors include his two sons, Carl Matthew Johnson and his wife, Karen of Collegeville, PA and Jeremy Charles Johnson of Limerick, PA, one grand daughter, Allison, and one sister, Linda J. Martin (John) of Rutherfordton, NC, two nieces and a nephew and their families, numerous cousins and friends. In his leisure time Carl enjoyed bird watching, spending time in nature, and photography. He was also an avid reader, mostly history related topics.Carl was cremated in Houston, and his remains will be brought to SkylineMemorial Parkin Monee, ILfor interment with his parents. Family and friends visitation and services will be held at the Hirsch Funeral Home in Matteson, Illinoison Wednesday July16 at 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, brief service to follow Interment will be at Skyline Memorial Park in Monee, Illinois.
