It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dale H. Moody, who left this world on November 27, 2025, at the age of 91, after a short and courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Born on October 3, 1934, in Illinois, Dale lived a life filled with both challenges and triumphs, always marked by his unique personality and deep passion for the things he loved.Dale was the cherished son of Roy Moody and Gertrude (Butterfield) Moody, who instilled in him values of kindness and generosity. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents and brothers Richard Moody and Roy Moody, both of whom he missed dearly. Dale leaves behind his loving nieces, Jeri Meisch-Moody and Diane (Moody) Kaffka, and his nephew, David Moody, along with a circle of good friends who are heartbroken by his passing—Greg and Lorraine Zielinski, Luke Wolanski, and Patrick Doolittle. In his youth, Dale served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, where he exemplified dedication and service to his country. Following his military service, Dale embarked on a varied employment journey, most notably as a purchasing and logistics coordinator for Allied Structural Steel in Chicago Heights, IL. His knowledge and expertise in buying and shipping steel were valuable assets to his colleagues, and he was respected in his field.Education was important to Dale, who took many college courses throughout his life. Although he did not attain a formal degree, his love for learning never waned, and he continued to seek knowledge well into his later years.Dale's personal life saw him marry Barbara, a union that came later in life. While they eventually divorced, they remained close friends until her passing, reflecting Dale's capacity for enduring relationships and his dedication to those he cared for.A self-described curmudgeon, Dale often embraced his unique demeanor with humor, even going so far as to have cards printed that humorously acknowledged this trait. Beneath that exterior, however, was a generous spirit, particularly when it came to sharing his vast knowledge of automobiles. Dale was an avid fan of Porsche and Ferrari cars, and in the late 1950s, he raced Porsches, a passion that never faded. In the early 1990s, he hosted Porsche 356 meetups in his (then) backyard in Homewood, IL, fostering a community of fellow car enthusiasts and sharing in the joy that these magnificent machines brought to their lives.Dale's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. He was not just a friend and family member; he was a man who deeply cared for his parents during their later years, showcasing his capacity for love and compassion despite his often curmudgeonly exterior. As we bid farewell to Dale H. Moody, we invite those who wish to honor his memory to consider making a donation to the cancer charity of their choice, a cause that was close to his heart. Dale is remembered not only for his love of cars and his unique character but also for the warmth and generosity he showed to those lucky enough to know him.A private funeral service will be held, honoring Dale's wishes for a more intimate goodbye. He will be deeply missed, yet fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.
