Darlene Ann Murphy (nee Lewis) was born on November 29, 1950 to Wilbert Sr. and Vivian Lewis. She was the third child of nine children. Growing up on the south side of Chicago, the Lewis were a very close knit family. Early on, Darlene developed a love for acting and singing which came naturally. She attended Harlan High School where she passionately participated in several school musicals. During this time, she met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Jerome Murphy. In 1969, Jerome and Darlene wed and to this union two children were born. In 1985, Darlene began working at Cook County Hospital. With more than thirty years of service, she developed many wonderful and lasting friendships. Darlene was a beautiful, multi-talented, and generous woman. She loved spending time with her family, especially during Christmas, which was her favorite time of year. Her humor and spirit will be greatly missed. Darlene is survived by two loving sons, Jerome (Michelle) Murphy Jr., and Carl Jerome (Victoria) Murphy. Eleven grandchildren; Donovan, DeAndre, Jordan, Mia, Raven, Hailee, Jade, Jerome III, Colin, and David. Three sisters; Robin Nettles, Candy (Dan) Bolognani, Beverly (John) McKinley. Three brothers; Wilbert (Pam) Lewis Jr,. Grant Lewis, Byron Lewis, and a special friend, John Raucci. She also leaves behind a host of family and friends who loved her immensely.
