Obituary

Debra Yarbrough Roberts was born July 3, 1952, to the union of Joseph Yarbrough and Iula Rosetta Dungy Yarbrough. Both preceded her in death along with her brother Joseph Yarbrough Jr. affectionately called "Butch." Debra was reared on the Southside of Chicago and attended Holy Angels and Bryn Marr elementary along with South Shore high school. Debra met and married Gerrard Roberts and to this union were born two sons, Gerald and Charvon. Thereafter, another son (Josiah) was added to the clan, which was her grandson who she reared and cultivated as her own. Debra was the second oldest child out of four children. She was feisty growing up and had no problem speaking her mind, She was a leader and protector of her siblings. Debra was a force to be reckoned with as a maturing child and as an adult. She had many gifts and talents. She loved music and sang in the conservatory and served as a worship leader. Debra also played the shakearey (percussion instrument), which was a reminder of her roots; and she truly had a green thumb and would grow herbs and other nutritional vegetables. Additionally, Debra was employed by Addus Health Care and served as her parent's caregiver. She also worked other odd jobs such as UBER, and more. During Debra's life's journey she was faced with two challenges. The first was being diagnosed with Sarcoidosis, which she received bleak news. However, that was the beginning of her experiencing the miraculous power of God. This was the onset of her accepting Jesus Christ as her personal savior, being baptized in Jesus' Name, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost under the tutledge of the Late Bishop Richards of Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church. As the result of her profound belief, she led many to Jesus Christ as well as family, The Lord used her and called her to ministry. She was also an Intercessor. Debra created tracks sharing her healing of Sarcoidosis, and was the author of two books (Soul Flying into Mount Zion and The Girl That Refused to Die), which one can still be purchased via Amazon. Debra's mom lost her sight in 1974 and she actually became her mother's eyes throughout the years. Their relationship was special and unique and they were literally stuck together like glue. If you saw one, you saw the other. After their trip to Ecuador, her mom's health challenges deepen, which created Debra's second challenge. Nursing her mother back to health and then losing her a few years later. Her heart was broken and her loneliness began. It was her baby sister, Sharon that made an effort to fill that void through their many phone calls, Her son, Gerald also was committed and supportive. Debra's earthly house was destroyed April 6, 2025, but she has a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens (2 Corinthians 5:1). Debra leaves to mourn her two sons Gerald Roberts, Charvon Roberts, and Josiah Roberts (Vonda).
