Edith M. Umland, nee Trenary, age 81, of Matteson, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on August 18, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death, in 2001, by her husband of 45 years, Gerald L. Umland. Edith was the loving mother of three daughters: Denise (Claude 'CJ') Manson of Manteno, Laura Guy of Matteson and Kimberly Sherer of Matteson. Proud grandmother to Hailey Manson (Cindy) Lucksinger of Oswego and Bryce Manson of Manteno. Dear sister of Joyce Crow of Warrenton, MO, Velma Albert of Buckley, Robert (Carol) Trenary of Matteson, and Lawrida Gilliam of Buckley. She is also sister-in-law to Eugene (Elaine) Umland of Matteson. Beloved aunt to 19 nieces and nephews, 39 great-nieces and nephews and 13 great-great nieces and nephews and 1 great-great-great nephew. Edith was a lifelong resident of Matteson and a lifelong active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Matteson. She worked for Minnesota/Hancock Fabrics for many years. In her early years she played on softball leagues, coached girls softball, and played on women's volleyball leagues. Visitation will be on Friday, August 25, 2017, at Hirsch Funeral Home, 3501 W. Lincoln Hwy, Matteson, from 2-8 p.m. Lying-in-State on Saturday, August 26, 2017, 9:00 a.m. until time of service 10:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in 4800 Sauk Trail, Richton Park. Interment will be at Skyline Memorial Cemetery in Monee. Memorial contributions may be given to the family or to Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
