Elsie DeWeese of Park Forest, Illinois passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2013 after a brief illness.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois but resided in Park Forest since 1962. She was a hairdresser at the Park Forest Marshall Fields store for many years until her retirement.
When Elsie retired she became an active community member. She gave her time to the library, the food pantry, St. James Hospital and the Park Forest Senior center. She was an enthusiastic gardener and enjoyed many years as an active member of the Park Forest Garden Club. Realizing that Park Forest did not have a city flower, Elsie worked for many years promoting the marigold, and after much promoting through "Marigold Magic" floats in parades and handing out free seeds, the city council took up the matter. Elsie was extremely proud when the city council formally adopted the marigold as the city flower.
She loved to travel and visited many countries and states. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan all of her life. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, her kindness and compassion and her deep faith.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, William, her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Thom Kapheim, her granddaughter, Solange Kapheim and her great grandson Marek Kapheim. She has many nieces and nephews who always considered her their favorite Aunt.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Reinhard Isbrandt, and three sisters, Lydia Isbrandt, Frieda Scherfling and Ruth Tafel.
