Elsie Ruth Garhammer, 88, a resident of Park Forest for sixty years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, March 7, 2018 at Advocate South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest. She was born on December 11, 1929 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. Elsie was the librarian for Algonquin Elementary School of District 163 until her retirement. She was a member of the National Honor Society and T.O.P.S. Her surviving family members include two sons: Gary (Sheila) Garhammer of Park Forest and Brian (Ling) Garhammer of Miami, Florida; three grandchildren: Gary Jr. (Crystal), Kelly (Matt) and Alexis; four great-grandchildren: Griffin, Connor, Carson and Alyssa. Elsie was preceded in death by her husband: Edwin Garhammer, Jr. and her son: Edwin Garhammer, III. The family will greet guests on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 10:00AM until 12:00Noon at Lain-Sullivan Funeral Home in Park Forest, Illinois. Burial will follow at Homewood Memorial Gardens.
