Obituary

Gloria J. Adams is the first of ten children born of Noble Lee and Freddie B. Gatlin. She was born July 19,1933 in Memphis, TN. Gloria was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.A. Suggs. She maintained a strong belief in Christ through out her life. For awhile, she belonged to Pioneer Baptist Church in Chicago, IL lead by Rev. Preston R. Winfrey. Gloria graduated from Manassas High School in Memphis, TN and attended Tennessee State in Nashville, TN. She later earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Chicago State University in 1976. Gloria married Alex C. Adams in 1956. They enjoyed a fun-loving marriage, filled with lots of travel for 43years,until he was called home with the Lord in 1999. Gloria was affiliated with the Order of Eastern Star, Hiram Lodge #14. Gloria worked multiple jobs, but excelled as a Supervisor at the IL Dept. of Human Services and retired in 2002.Since then, she lived a peaceful life in Calumet Park, IL and lately in Park Forest, IL surrounded by those who loved her. Gloria went to be with the Lord on May 20, 2024,leaving to cherish her memory five sisters: Sylvia B. Martin, Norma J. Lacey, Joyce Honeysucker ,Gail (Lenon) Brandon, and Tallulah Moseley ;two brothers: Noble Gatlin, Jr. and Wayne A. Gatlin.(Two sisters: Barbara Petty and Rita Hall preceded her in death.) Glorias memory will be cherished by her cousin,(more like a daughter) Suzette R. Phillips,(son-in-law) Kenneth L. Phillips and his mother Daisy Morgan who all surrounded her in her final moments. Gloria will also be missed by a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
