Obituary

Harold William Kummelehne, born on May 5, 1929 to Wilhelmina (Minnie) and Herman Kummelehne in Richton Park, Illinois. Harold lived in Matteson his entire life, attending grade school in Matteson, and Thornton Township High School in Harvey. After Graduating from high school Harold went to work for the Illinois Central Railroad in June, 1947 and worked for the Illinois Central Railroad until his retirement in December 1986. Harolds only leave from the railroad was when he entered the military in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1953 as a Corporal in the United States Army. Harold married Margaret Mary Ott in February, 1951 and had seven children; Carol, Susan, Sharon, Shirlene, Harold, Sondra, and Sonia(Dan). Harold is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Margaret, daughter Shirlene, and his second wife Dorothy (nee Sullivan). Harold loved the outdoors, fishing was his favorite outdoor activity, traveling to his favorite fishing place, Leech Lake, Minnesota. As Harolds Heavenly Father has called him home, Harold can now enjoy fishing daily and catching the great elusive fish he could never catch on Earth. Harold is survived by his sister, Lou Ellen Stege, six children; Carol (John) Ranieri, Susan (Robert) Scharnhorst, Sharon (the late Steve) Arendt, Harold (Debbie) Kummelehne, Sondra (Daniel) Apgar, and Sonia Tarpley, 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church in Matteson. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. The family will greet guests on Monday evening at Hirsch West End Chapel in Matteson from 3:00 until 8:00PM.
