Obituary

Joyce Elizabeth Egdorf, a longtime resident of Crete, Illinois passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024 in Lewisville, Texas. Joyce was born in Goodenow, Illinois on November 25, 1932 to Frieda and Elmer Matthias. She graduated from Crete-Monee High School 1950 and married her high-school sweetheart, Warren on October 20, 1951. Joyce graduated from Prairie State Community College and Governors State University. She attended Eureka College and was an Order of the Pearl member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. While raising children and going to school, Joyce worked for the Marshall Fields Company. She was also an elementary school librarian and a substitute teacher for several school districts. Joyce enjoyed participating in the Will County Fair, winning ribbons and Best of Show awards for baking, flowers, hobby collections and others. She enjoyed many years as a member of Homemakers, serving multiple times as an officer and traveling to conferences and summer camps. For many years Joyce served on the Crete Pantry Board. As a life-long member of Crete United Methodist Church, Joyce served on the Missions Committee, attended Bible studies, taught Sunday School and served many meals with the United Methodist Women. Joyce filled her days with writing letters and notes, making handmade cards, reading, traveling and in later years, telling jokes. Her passion was her friends and family. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Warren and her brother Dr. Howard Matthias. She is survived by her sister Ruth Kernagis of Crown Point, Indiana, her daughter and son-in-law Laurie Egdorf Urrutia and Fernando Urrutia of Flower Mound, Texas and son Randall Egdorf of Quincy, Illinois. She was a devoted grandmother to Patrick Hurst and Sara Boswell, Tom Urrutia, Alex Urrutia, Rosemary Egdorf Borger and Rob Borger, David Egdorf and Jessica Egdorf. She was a cherished great-grandmother to William Borger, Madilynn Egdorf and Maverick Egdorf.
