Mary Lillian Uhl, 65, passed away peacefully after battling a brain tumor on
December 9, 2014. Mary was born March 19, 1949 in East Chicago, IN and
spent her childhood and young adult years in Markham and Crete, IL. She
spent over 30 years in Iowa City, IA where she worked for the University of
Iowa in several departments, ending with the Honors Program. She was a
Mark Twain scholar, Jane Austen enthusiast and lifelong academic. She had
a Masters in English from Northern Illinois University.
She is survived by siblings Adrienne, George, Christopher (Barbara),
David, Jonathan, Timothy (Diane) and Susan. She is also survived by dear
nieces and nephews Christopher (Juli), Kevin (Meagan), Matthew (Becky),
Gregory (Cindy), Elizabeth, Melissa (Jonathan), Sarah, Laura and Rachael
and four precious great-nephews Everett, Tristan, Duncan and Winston. She
is preceded in death by her parents, George and Celiann, her sister Roseann
and her nephew Kenneth.
Visitation for friends and family will be 2-5pm, Sunday, December 14, 2014
at Hirsch Crete Chapel, 507 Exchange St., Crete, IL . A Mass of Christian
Burial beginning at 11am, Monday, December 15, 2014
at St. Liborius Church, 71 W. 35th St., Steger, IL. Interment will follow at
Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 1952 Steger Rd., Steger, IL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
