Diane April Gilbert (nee Celarier), 56, passed away at her home on Sunday, November 19, 2023. She departed this life three months and one day after her husband, Mark Gilbert. Diane was born April 12, 1967, in Newark, NJ to Carol Ruth (nee Noffz) and Duane Edward Celarier. She grew up in Park Forest, IL. Diane spent many carefree summers running out the open door to ride her bike with friends and swim at the aqua center. She graduated from Rich East High School. At the age of 16, she met Mark Gilbert while both working with special needs children. In pursuit of a meaningful career, she received her degree in social work from the University of Illinois Chicago. She went on to recieve her Master's from Governor's State University. She married the love of her life, Mark Gilbert on September 16, 1989. On September 11, 1991, Diane and Mark welcomed their daughter, Christina Ren Gilbert, into the world, and their close bond remained a cherished aspect of her life. Christinas four children brought her and Mark much joy. As a dedicated social worker, Diane spent her life in service of others. She spent nearly thirty years working for Service Incorporated, helping others obtain needed services, jobs, and accommodations based on their unique life circumstances. Even outside of work, those in need were drawn to Dianes caring nature. Diane will also be remembered for her energy and sense of humor. Her laugh was a mashup of the Flinstones and a Disney character; her cackle would light up the room. She shared many laughs with family members and friends throughout her life. Diane is survived by her daughter, Christina Rene Betts (nee Gilbert); grandchildren, JC Charles Scarbrough, Alexandria "Tink" Ren Betts, Jada "Jadabug" Nicole Betts, Nicole "Nini" Reina Betts; sisters, Denise Lisette Pulido (Edgar), and Laura Lynne Sharpe (Randy), and Cynthia Anne Finelli (Joe); and nieces and nephews, Janet (children David, Maya, Elijah, Levi, Jackson and Isla), Tim (children Bella, Ben, Sophia, and Tristan), Katlyn (children Carlo, Lucia, and Giana), Jennifer, Kyle, Victor, and Miranda. A celebration of life will be held at Lane-Sullivan in Park Forest on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 4 - 7 P.M. To honor Dianes memory, go out and help someone in need in your community.
