Sally Ann Foster McDuffie died on May 13, 2016 at the age of 101. Sally Ann was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She is survived by daughter Judyth Redmond; grandchildren John Redmond (Deirdra), Jennifer Hunter (Malvin) and Jill Redmond; four great grandchildren, Taylor Redmond, Quinn Redmond, Matthew Hunter and Michael Hunter; four sisters Dora Fraizer, Doris Carter, Vivian Lee and Virginia Manns; and a host of other loving relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd McDuffie; daughter Janyce Rogers; brothers Homer and Herbert Foster; and sisters Inez Brown and Ann Weston.
Sally Ann achieved many "firsts" in her professional life as an R.N. and active member in the community. In 1980, the late Governor Ella Grasso appointed Sally Ann to the Veterans Home and Hospital Commission. She was the first woman Commissioner. She was reappointed by the late Governor William O'Neill, who also appointed her to the Women Veterans Task Force. She was a Charter Member of Chi Eta Phi Nursing Sorority in Hartford and served as its first president. Sally Ann was a Charter Member of the Hartford Chapter of Jack and Jill and the Urban League Guild of Greater Hartford. She also served as the leader for the first integrated Girl Scout Troop in Greater Hartford.
