Samuel Bennett Lehrfeld, 73, a resident of Park Forest, Illinois died Wednesday, February 12th in Chicago after a long illness.
Sam was a drummer, a golf course manager and an avid nature and animal lover. He was born August 18, 1951 to Marion and Leon Lehrfeld in Harvey Illinois. The family lived in Park Forest and moved to Country Club Hills when he was a boy. He was best known as a bike rider and a tease to his twin sisters while he also helped raise his younger sister and brother. He was active at the YMCA in Harvey, Illinois
He attended Southwood Junior High School, and Rich Central High School while modeling mod clothes for Man at Ease in Chicago old town
Sam was a Beatles fan who left high school to pursue his drummer career in Michigan and later in Los Angeles, California. His professional name was "Sam Lafel", and he was nicknamed as "The Drummer from Hell." While back in high school, He was well known for his rhythm and percussion at area dances, and in clubs
Sam earned an associates degree in Horticulture in California while working in studios and with many bands and artists.
Sam loved to fish. He said he did it for the "Zen" and he didn't keep the fish as he grew older. He wore his waders and stood in the river for hours.
When he returned to Illinois, he worked as an Assistant Manager at Flossmoor Country Club. He retired from Odyssey Country Club in 2018.
Sam married Christine Burns Lehrfeld, in January 2006. Together they enjoy cats, music and family at Cedarwood Cooperative and Park Forest.
Sam continue to play drums with good friends, Jon and Eric Mantel and Dave Knuth. They recorded in Eric's studio, and Sam joined Dave's band. He loved movies about the Bible and the Chicago Blackhawks.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Philip and Raymond Lehrfeld, and his sister, Sharon.
Sam is survived by his wife of 19 years, Christine (nee Burns), his sisters Sandy Cox Schubert of Urbanna- Champaign, Illinois and Marcy Wilderi in Tennessee and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was a man of peace, and we thank God for his life.
