Shirley (Huston) Kluge passed away Thursday, February 13 at the age of 78. She was a long time resident of Park Forest, Illinois and spent the last five years battling cancer.
Born August 8, 1946 at the hospital in Morris. Illinois. Her parents were LaVerne "Buster" Huston and Irene Huston. As a child she lived on a farm near Gardner, Illinois and attended a country school for her early education. She graduated Gardner-South Wilmington High School in 1964 and went on to Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois. Shirley majored in elementary education, graduated, and moved North to start her teaching career. She taught 3rd and 4th grades at Nathan Hale School in Lansing, Illinois for five years.
Shirley married Keith Kluge in 1970. The couple lived briefly in Glenwood, spent a year in Wisconsin as Keith obtained his Master's degree, and then moved into their Park Forest home in 1973. Their two children, Kevin and Beth were born, and she left teaching. After the children started grade school, Shirley joined the staff at Rich South High School and worked as an instructional assistant in the library until her retirement in 2001. She enjoyed travel both abroad and in the United States, challenging sewing projects, and gathering with friends and family.
Preceding her in death are her parents, brother James Huston, sister-in-law Karen Huston, and son Kevin Kluge. Shirley is survived by her husband Keith Kluge, daughter Beth Malinis, grandson Max Malinis, sister Barbara (Carl) Chandler, brother Gary (Connie) Huston, and brother Karl (Karrin) Schaulin, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be a memorial visitation and funeral at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Flossmoor. Paster Chris Wogaman of Trinity Lutheran will conduct the service. in lieu of flowers the family would suggest a donation to the American Cancer Society in Shirley's memory.
