Obituary

Walter "Wally" Rozen, 97, passed away peacefully on December 31 after a long period of declining health following a stroke in 2007. Wally is survived by his wife of 65 years, Theodora "Teddi", sons Robert, Ross and Reid, grandchildren Kaylie and Aimee, sister Loretta (Edward) Cvengross, he was preceded in death by his sister Wanda (Joseph) Kawa and brothers Joseph and Victor. Wally was a veteran of WW II, where he served as Tabulating Machine Operator in the European theater. He had a long career as a computer operator for Time, Inc. followed by a job as a custodian at Matteson Elementary school. Wally was active in the American Legion, Post 474, participating in the annual Memorial Day parade for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Lawrence OToole. An avid sportsman, Wally enjoyed many sports including baseball, bowling and golf. On his 92th birthday, he played 18 holes of golf. He spent over 25 years umpiring Little League and Softball games at Matteson Memorial Park, calling out many of the kids in Matteson. He enjoyed playing poker with his retired buddies for many years. He was an avid traveler, have visited all of the 50 states, Canada, Mexico and Europe. He and Teddi spent their honeymoon in Cuba, back when Havana was a cross between Miami and Las Vegas.
