Wayne Eugene Spies, 75, of Homewood, Illinois, passed away on January 4, 2024.
Wayne was born in Chicago, IL, to Louis & Geraldine Spies on August 18, 1949 and was the second of three children. After attending high school he went into the Armed Forces and proudly served during the Vietnam War. During his time in the Army he worked as a marksman and medic. Those years in the army were ones he always remembered. He married Elaine on October 27, 1979, at The Wayside Chapel in Palos Park, Illinois. Wayne worked as a computer technician at Arthur Anderson/Anderson Consulting for over 20 years. After the company experienced changes he retired from that position and moved on to being a school bus driver for Lincolnway Bus Company. He enjoyed working and driving the young children, made many fond memories, and retired from there after 12 years.
Wayne, along with his wife Elaine, were always active members in their church. He enjoyed singing in the choir for many years at Stone Church in Palos Heights. He was known for his love of family, faith and his pug Wellington, who he saved from being alone those last few years of his dog life. Other than his love for God and wife, he deeply treasured becoming a Papi/Grandpa to his 4 grandchildren.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Elaine; devoted children Jonathan (Gretchen) Jeffries, Erica (Regginald) Butler, and Scott Spies; cherished grandchildren Rosalio, Samantha, Jade, and Isabella; dear siblings William (Cynthia) Spies, Nancy (Mike) Quinlan and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his loving parents Louis and Geraldine Spies (nee Britton), Brother in Law Robert Nowak, and many other loving family members.
