William Peter Featherston (92), of Demotte, Indiana (formerly a longtime resident of Matteson, IL), passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, December 14, 2024 in Demotte, Indiana.Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Lain-Sullivan Funeral Home, Park Forest, IL.Funeral services will follow the visitation at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Lain-Sullivan with Pastor Brett Satkowiak of Faith Lutheran Church in Demotte, IN, officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Matteson, IL. Arrangements are by Lain-Sullivan. Bill (Sonny) was born in Chicago, IL, to William and Alice Featherston on July 7, 1932. He attended Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights, IL, and graduated in 1950. He married Elaine Elbers on July 15, 1958, at St. John Lutheran Church in Tinley Park, IL. Bill worked as a Field Service Technician for Pitney Bowes for 33 years until his retirement in 1987. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 and received several honors, including the Korean Service Ribbon, U.N. Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Korean Presidential Unit Citation. Bill was an active member of his community, participating in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and was an avid bowler. He was deeply involved with his church, where he served as Trustee, Elder, and was a member of the Cemetery Board. He also participated in Dart Ball Leagues. He was known for his love of family and faith.Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice Featherston (Swanson); his brother Jim Featherston; his daughter Mary Featherston; his granddaughter Courtney Prairie; and step-sisters Catherine Timmer and Babe. He is survived by his loving family: his wife of 66 years, Elaine Featherston; children Debbie (Timm) Prairie, William (Kathy) Featherston, Carol (Tim) O'Brien, Paul (Darlene) Featherston, and Robert (Lisa) Featherston; grandchildren Jake (Jessica) Prairie, Zach (Dyanna) Prairie, Clay Prairie, Stacy (Brent) Webster, Emily Prairie, Amanda (Elliot Kraft) Featherston, Bradley (Veronica) Featherston, Michelle (Stewart Anderko) O'Brien, Kelly (Jack) Buckley, Shannon O'Brien, and Trajan Featherston; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Jake Prairie, Zach Prairie, Clay Prairie, Brad Featherston, Trajan Featherston, and Travis Featherston.
