Allan P. Groman, 90, of Park Forest, IL, passed away peacefully in his home on January 12, 2024.

Allan was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 14, 1933. He was a resident of the Pride of Judea Children’s Home in Brooklyn from the age of ten and graduated from the City College of New York with a degree in Business. He married Jeaninne (Leoni) on January 10, 1981, they spent 43 loving years together. Allan was proud to work as the Vice President of Claims for Merit Insurance Company for 24 years. He was involved with the South Suburban Board of Jewish Education and organized High Holiday services at Freedom Hall in Park Forest for over 40 years. Allan was an avid golfer and loved playing cards and bingo with friends at local senior centers. He had an energy loved by everyone. Allan was incredibly smart, generous, quick-witted, a loud and proud singer of Sinatra, a Chicago sports fan, and a friend to all.

Allan’s family was his pride and joy.  He was a devoted husband, loving father, supportive and doting grandfather, proud great-grandfather, and was affectionately known as “Uncle Al the kiddies pal.” He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren on annual summer family vacations, enjoying the views of Branson, Gatlinburg, Chattanooga, and the magic and excitement of Cedar Point, Wisconsin Dells, and Disney World.

Allan is preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Bloomah (Stern) Groman; sister, Marlene Vogel; and sister-in-law Charmaine (Leoni) Coombs. 

Allan is survived by his wife Jeaninne; his children Stephanie (Tom) Byer, David (Tina) Groman and Keerie (Jim) Prasopoulos; Grandchildren Brett (Tessa) Byer, Eric (Tiffany) Byer and Hailey and Lauren Prasopoulos; great-Grandchildren Ezekiel and Havilah Byer; sister-in-law Melody (Guy) Hawkins and many nieces, nephews and their children.

Visitation will be Saturday, January 20 from Noon – 4 PM at Lain Sullivan Funeral Home in Park Forest, IL. A remembrance service will begin at 1PM.  Friends and family will be invited and welcome to share any memories of Allan at this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Allan’s name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Alzheimer’s Association.
