Charlotte A. (Cordick) Borner
July 28, 1925 ~ December 21, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years OldShare Tribute:
Charlotte Borner was born at home in Plattsburgh, NY on July 28, 1925, the 3rd child of Daniel and Charlotte Cordick. Her sister Mary and brother Daniel preceded her in death. Her sister Olive lives in Kennebunkport, ME.
Skipping 2nd grade, mom graduated from high school in 1942 at the age of 16 and went to work as a telegraph operator for Western Union. She met Walter (Wally) E. Borner Sr. in 1945 in Plattsburg and followed him to Chicago where they were married on November 19, 1945. Wally called our mother “Bunny” and she kept that nickname until his death in March of 1991. After that she was Charlotte again. She and Dad moved to Matteson, Illinois in February, 1952, where they raised our family. Both lived there for the rest of their lives.
Mom took pride in her work and her home. The house was always neat and clean and often filled with relatives and friends. She worked for Western Union again in Chicago Heights for several years. She excelled at her second job as a proof operator for the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago where she worked for over 25 years. She raised us to be honest and expected us to work hard and educate ourselves. She always spoke her mind -- you knew where you stood with mom.
Charlotte had 3 children, Gail (Gary) Nielsen, Wally Jr.(Carolyn) Borner, and Craig (Catherine) Borner. They blessed her with 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandsons.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 28 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hirsch West End Funeral Home, 3501 W. Lincoln Hwy., Matteson. Funeral Service will be held at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, 4800 Sauk Trail, Richton park, IL. Friday, December 29, at 10:00 a.m. Internment Beverly Cemetery, 12000 S. Kedzie Ave., Blue Island.
We are thankful for the many years we had with mom. We enjoyed her sense of humor and her direct, straightforward approach to life. Mom – God’s peace to you. “At home at last” with dad.
