Ellen E. Leek

Ellen E. Leek, a longtime resident of Park Forest, Il, formerly of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Sunday May 3rd, 2020, at the age of 92.  Due to the sudden death of her father, she became the legal guardian of her youngest sister Sherry and later became a “Grammie” to her sister’s children. Ellen worked as a retail sales manager for Sears in Park Forest until a serious illness in 1970. Ellen survived a risky surgery that left her deaf in one ear, blind in one eye, and with partial paralysis on her right side. With her strong will and determination, she taught herself how to walk, talk, write, and drive again. Ellen had a deep faith in God and some of her last words were “God is watching over us.” She loved crafts, traveling, selling Avon, horses, and her beloved dog Rajah. Her family has many fond memories of playing games, laughing together, and visiting with her. 

For 36 years, she was the beloved wife of the late Milo Leek. She was the loving sister and guardian of the late Sherry (Herb) Cory, beloved sister to the late Irene Munson, and June (Robert)Swacker. She was a loving Grammie to Tracy (Dino) Lenburg, and Chad (Dawn) Cory, and a Great Grammie to Taylor and Kaitlyn Lenburg, Cade, Reese, Casey, and Rylie Cory. She is the beloved Aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. 

A private graveside ceremony will be held for the family at Skyline Memorial Park Cemetery.
