Irene Hickey

Irene (nee Paolucci) Hickey, 99, of Park Forest, IL, passed away peacely surrounded by family in her home on December 20, 2022.

Irene was born on October 8th, 1923 to Peter and Rose Paolucci in Sparland, Illinois. After graduating from Sparland High School in 1941, Irene went on to business school.

After graduation, she landed her first job at Caterpillar during the Second World War participating in the war effort. After the war, she became a homemaker raising her four children. Later, she worked as a buyer for many years at American Lock, working indispensably there for many years.

Irene met Paul Hickey in Sparland while she was in high school. They later began to date and wed in 1943. After marriage, Paul and Irene moved to Park Forest, which was just forming, becoming engaged citizens and supporters of the village.

Irene and Paul went on to have four children, Paula, Tim, Jill, and Katie. She was always proud to mention the accomplishments and education of her children and grandchildren.

After retiring in 1989, Irene spent her time gardening, reading, cooking, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and working in the church Community at St. Irenaeus. She was an active member of the garden club, and enjoyed many summers at the Aqua Center.

Irene was predeceased by her husband Paul, her parents Peter and Rose, her siblings Beatrice, Enrica, Pete and her daughter Paula. Irene is survived by her children Tim, Jill, Katie,  her grandchildren Simon, Max, Devin, Hannah, and Jack, and her great grandchildren Harrison, Leon, Jane, and Walter.

Services will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Park Forest, Illinois on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. She will be interred at Skyline Memorial Park in Monee, Illinois.
