John (“Jack”) Wesley Plummer, age 92, of Park Forest, IL, passed-away peacefully on Wednesday, November 30, 2022. He was born on June 23, 1930, to Clifford and Lucy M. (nee Osborne) Plummer in Clay, NY. Jack was a schoolteacher, principal and assistant superintendent for the Sauk Village school district for 30 years before he retired.
Jack met his wife, Helen (nee Nave), while attending Harding University, Searcy, AR. They lived in Memphis, TN, and Washington Courthouse, OH, before moving to Park Forest in 1959. Jack and Helen were active members of the Park Forest Church of Christ, where Jack served as preacher, song leader and elder over the years. The couple enjoyed singing, visiting long-time friends, travelling, and doting on their family. Jack and Helen had been married for 60 years before Helen passed in 2013.
They have three children, Lisa (Michael) Howards, Joan (Justin) Avey, and Clifford (Lori) Plummer; seven grandchildren: Laura (Scott) Callejo, Melissa (Jason) Day, Jason (Lauren) Avey and Jamie (Jon) Miller, Molly, Cole (Jasmine) and Olivia Plummer; twenty great-grandchildren, Jordan and Makayla Carlton, Jack, Nathan, Levi and Ava Callejo, Esther, Joshua, Elizabeth and Hannah Miller, Royal and Harper Day, Jett, Brynn, Lacy and Saylor Avey, Lorelei and Hazel Plummer; and two great-great-grandchildren, Kingsten and Anjel.
Jack leaves a legacy of faithful Christian service, wise leadership, and loving kindness for those who knew him.
Visitation is Friday, Dec. 2, 6:00-8:00 pm, and Saturday, Dec. 3, 11:00 am to Noon immediately followed by a Funeral service at 12:00 pm, at the Church of Christ, 4010 W. 206th St., Matteson, IL.
