Joyce Elaine Weckwert

Joyce Elaine Weckwert, 88, formerly of Chicago Heights, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2021 in St Louis, MO. She was born January 28, 1932 in St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights, the daughter of Arthur Weckwert and Helen (Bloomstadt) Weckwert. Joyce was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Chicago Heights for more than 80 years. She used her talents to provide the church's annual craft fair with numerous handmade items they could sell and was also a volunteer with St James Hospital, supplying them over the years with hats and blankets for newborns. She was an expert “crafter” and her nieces and nephews have plenty of evidence of that in the homemade cards, afghans, and needlepoint pictures that decorate their homes. She loved to make decorated boxes and fill them with candy, and give them to postal workers, grocery store clerks, her trash collectors, and anyone else she encountered on her daily travels.
Later in life she would give them to the workers who were taking care of her in her assisted living facility. She is warmly remembered by friends and family as someone who was always cheerful and whose mission in life was to spread joy to others. Joyce was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and Harry Betker. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law Louis and Lorraine Weckwert, as well as eight nieces and nephews: Brad Betker, Pam Betker, Brian Betker, Melissa (Weckwert) Hayes, Wendy (Weckwert) Smith, Leslie (Weckwert) Green, Scott Weckwert and Christopher Weckwert, and by their spouses and children.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hirsch West End Funeral Home 50 Westwood Drive, Park Forest, IL. Services and burial are private.
