Martha J. Matthies

Martha J. Matthies, age 90, resident of Generations at Applewood in Matteson IL, formerly of Park Forest IL, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry G. Matthies, her parents Jesse and Daisy Mullins, her brother Robert Mullins, her sister Eva Roberts, her daughter Martha (Marty) Thompson, her son Richard Matthies, her grandchildren Hulan J. and William R. Matthies and Crystal Lewis, and her great grandchild Jacob Lewis. Martha was a loving mother of Hulan, Ted, William (Mary), Matthew (Gloria), and Mary Matthies, and Margie (Brian) Black. Beloved grandmother of Brandie (Brad) Nelson, Sarah and Jeffrey Matthies, Jerry (Katie) Thornhill, Meghan (Justin) Rhodes, Ethan and Evan Black, Kaitlyn and Noah Matthies. Cherished great grandmother of Lilyan and Tristan Lewis, Aiden and Adilyn Thornhill, and Madelynn and Benjamin Rhodes. Fond sister of Edna Mullin, Dorothy Rumisek, Doris Dickson, and Jessie Hall. Dearest aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Martha loved spending time with her family, cooking/baking, growing beautiful flowers, and watching old classic movies and westerns. She was an active member of her church and a caring neighbor and friend. She had the kindest heart and was sweet and compassionate to everyone she met. She will be greatly missed by all.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 5th 10 am-12pm with Funeral Service immediately following at Lain-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Westwood Drive, Park Forest IL 60466. Interment at Washington Memory Gardens, Homewood, IL.
