Mary Ellen (Murphy) Panici passed away peacefully on Oct. 3, 2018. Married for 37 years to Phil, before his passing in 1992. She had five sons.....Phil, Tom, Dave, Dan and Jim, and their spouses Phyllis, Nadine, Helen, Mona and Colleen, She loved her grandchildren, Alex, Alyssa, Kyle, Michael, Molly, Madelaine, Annalise, Philip and Ryan. Great grandchildren Lockley, Leonardo and Roman.
Mary was the oldest child of Jack and Rosella Murphy with brothers and sisters Denny (2017), Johnny (2012), Kitty, Jimmy, Timmy, Terry (2007), Frank, Bill, Maureen and Joe.
She was part of a large loving family, including dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary had many interests in her life.....crochet, china painting, travel, being on the water and dinner with family or friends.
Whether she was being a referee at home or working at the switchboard, her smile always lit up the room. Sitting on the front porch swing watching the cardinal nests or playing in her marigolds and geraniums (all those dried seeds!) gave her so much pleasure in times past. And her scarf or maybe the roof of her car was preferred to be purple!
Being the Irishman in an Italian family was quite the culinary challenge, but her mock chicken legs, pizza fritte and cheeseballs were legendary!
She would sometimes amaze, with an awkward joketelling (she tried) or masterful words of wisdom. Including........”My apartment has vaunted ceilings and aluminum floors” or “I get dizzy because with my operation they removed my equilibrium”. But it was things like these that made her so endearing to those in her world.
Dear mother, sister, cousin and friend...your Irish eyes and warming smile will be forever missed
Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow, The diamond glints on the snow
I am the sunlight that ripens grain, I am the gentle autumn rain
When you wake in the morning’s hush, I am the sweet uplifting push
I am the quiet birds in circled flight, And the soft stars that shine at night
