Mary (Simmons) Liang

Mary Nelson Simmons Liang, formerly Mary Chisholm, age 74, of Olympia Fields, IL, passed away on Saturday, February 13th, 2021. She was born on January 7th, 1947, in Fort Monroe, VA, daughter of the late Col. Vernon and Jane (Byron) Simmons, Jr. Mary married Bruce (Catherine) Chisholm of Darien, IL in 1971, and divorced amicably in 1994. Mary married Yuan Liang on August 12th, 2017, and he preceded her in death on January 7th, 2021. She is further preceded in death by her brother James (Sherry) and granddaughter Olivia Guttenberg Chisholm.

Mary was a longtime resident of Park Forest, IL, and was a member of Faith United Protestant Church, where she was a frequent volunteer and a member of the choir. She had a deep faith in God, a love of music, cats, and all people.

She is survived by her family; sister Elizabeth “Betsy” (Dan) Farmer of Durango, CO, and brother Vernon “Terry” (Leigh) Simmons, III, of Richmond, VA, children and grandchildren Robert (Michelle) Chisholm and their children Cameron, Jane, and Emily of Porter, IN, James (Sara Guttenberg) Chisholm and son Matthew of Byron, IL, and John (Elizabeth) Chisholm and their children McKenna, Grace, and Colin of Minooka, IL, and numerous friends.

A private ceremony will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, February 20th at Lain-Sullivan Funeral Home 50 Westwood Drive, Park Forest for close friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Faith United Protestant Church in Park Forest, IL and the South Suburban Public Action to Delivery Shelter (PADS) in Mary’s name.
