Ronny Carl Anderson was born in Chicago, Illinois, July 17, 1950 to Miller and Mary Anderson and is now home with his Lord Jesus Christ.
Ron graduated from Farragut High School. He graduated from Illinois State University where he taught and worked as an Admissions Counselor. There he met and married his first wife Diane Hodges. To that union was born son, Ronny Carl Anderson, Jr. He earned a Master’s Degree at the University of Chicago, where he worked as an Admissions Counselor. He later married Lolita Smith, who preceded him in death. To that union was born Christopher Carl Anderson. Ron met Gwendolyn Williams, his significant other who loved and cared for him until his death.
He found his true passion as a senior high school counselor at Southland College Prep Charter High School. In his career of education, he earned many awards, but his most cherished was received in 2016 from the (NASBE) National Alliance of Black School Educators. He received the W.E. DuBois Higher Education Award for helping students matriculate to higher education. Through his efforts, each class at Southland has had a 100 percent acceptance rate. Ron also secured more than $105 million merit-based college scholarships for the 495 students.
In his spare time, Ron was a marathon runner who earned the nickname, “The Running Man.”
Ron leaves to mourn, Gwendolyn Williams, Sons Ronny and Christopher Anderson; Sister, Delores Turner (Clark); Brothers, Miller Anderson (Patricia), Andre Thrower; Sister-in-law Betty Handy, Nephews; Melvin Handy, Lucius (Anna) and Kevin (Delores) Mitchell, Steven Anderson, Aaron and Bryan Anderson, Nieces; and Kim (Kelly) Foxx. Great nieces Monica Mitchell, Kai and Kendall Foxx; Great nephew, Maurice Mitchell.
Family and friends will gather for visitation Tuesday, 9:00 a.m until time of Funeral Service 10:00 a.m. at Hirsch West end Funeral Home 3501 Lincoln Hwy. Matteson, IL.
Interment Calvary Cemetery
