Stephen Nelson

Stephen Nelson, 51, of Cook County, IL, died unexpectedly at his home in January 2023.

Stephen was born in 1971 in Cook County.  He attended Homewood-Flossmoor High School and Illinois State University, and previously worked as a teacher for Cooper Middle School in Buffalo Grove for more than 20 years.  He was also a talented musician, artist, and craftsman. 

Stephen is survived by his mother Mary, sister Kristin, and brother Peter (Elizabeth), as well as two nephews, a godson, numerous relatives, many good friends and former teaching colleagues, and by his beloved dog, Porter.

He was preceded in death by his father, Peter. 

Out of sensitivity and privacy concerns to the family, it is requested that no additional details are asked of Stephen’s family members regarding the specifics of his death.  

Opportunities for those who knew and loved Stephen and wish to share memories will be given at both the service and luncheon afterwards.

I really appreciate the effort many are making to travel here, to help us to remember and celebrate Stephen’s life, and to help support each other as we all continue to grieve his loss.  
I will share information here later about how to stream the service online or attend virtually, for any who are unable to attend in person but wish to share in remembering Stephen.
